A while back my friend was singing this 80's song in German, I recognised it and it reminded me of an American song. We set out to find out WTF is the deal.. It turns out I was thinking of MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This and she thought she was singing Falco's Der Kommissar (she had all the words wrong).

It so happens that MC Hammer got sued by Rick James for having copied Super Freak. Indeed, there were many songs and various artists involved in this mess. It goes further in the video clip with an hommage by Aphex Twin... Note, Rick James would have never won a Grammy had MC Hammer not copied his riff.. This story sheds some light on copyright flaws.

The video: I simply aligned both videos (at their ends, Falco's is a bit longer) on a video editing program (KDEnlive) and switched from one video to the other.

Il y a quelque temps, une amie chantait une chanson des années 80 en allemand, j'ai reconnu et ça m'a rappelé une chanson américain. On s'est mis en route pour trouve qu'est-ce qui se passe... Il se trouve que je pensais "U Can't Touch This" de MC Hammer alors que elle "Der Kommissar" de Falco.

Il se trouve que MC Hammer s'est fait attaquer en justice par Rick James pour avoir copié Super Freak... Et oui, entre en jeux un 3ème jouer ! Au passage, j'ai remarqué un passage dans le clip de Super Freak que Aphex Twin à sans doute réferencé.... La version longue est dans le lien en anglais (ci-haut)... Mais la version courte de la version longue est que, Rick James n'aurait jamais eu de Grammy si MC Hammer ne l'avait pas copié. Je trouve que cette histoire met en lumière quelques soucis avec le Copyright...
